Pat was already waiting for Sunshine at the coffeehouse when she'd arrived that morning at 4:30, looking about like how she felt (though he was bigger, taller, male, and wearing the khaki-est of khaki, while she was in bright green and peacock blue), i.e. worn out and short on sleep. He wanted - as a professional SOF and a semi-exploiter of what she could do - to talk with her about what had happened earlier that same night.

But Rae hadn't wanted to talk. She had wanted to make cinnamon rolls. Thinking about the events of that night, much less talking about them, was beyond her right then. Pat reminded her unnecessarily that they were on the same side in this fight, following her into her bakery, reminding her how much they needed her cooperation. SOF, those few agents that knew about what she was doing, was very appreciative of her efforts, certainly, but they needed her to give an official report. They needed more details on what had happened, not just what she and Con had left for SOF to find. The blood and mess and bodies that Rae was very much not thinking about right now.

Perhaps something in the mechanical way she was going about her morning baking, not looking at anything in particular but certainly not him, told Pat that he wouldn't get anything out of her. At least not now. He left her in peace a mere five minutes before Charlie arrived to haul out the patio furniture and start the first pot of coffee.
