OOM: Movie Night with Autor
Feb. 17th, 2014 09:39 pmIt takes a bit of juggling, what with the large bowl of popcorn, the smaller bowl of other snacks balanced on top, the movie, and her keys, but Rae eventually is able to open the door to her room and let them both in.
"Success!" she says, holding the door open for Autor to come in bearing the teapot and cups on their tray.

Date: 2014-02-18 03:52 am (UTC)"I couldn't decide between a bad old horror movie and something classic," she answers, looking over the nondescript movie case. "When I asked for advice, Bar suggested this one. It's a production of Hamlet, I think, though it's not one I'm familiar with - not that that narrows it down any."
There aren't many productions of Hamlet she has actually seen all the way through. "Might be German?"

Date: 2014-02-18 04:34 am (UTC)The themesong playing, with the... miniature spaceships and all... doesn't look like any version of Hamlet Rae has ever seen.
"Did I get the wrong movie?"

Date: 2014-02-18 04:38 am (UTC)"... just remember that this is a show, so you should really just relax."
"Oh."

Date: 2014-02-18 04:48 am (UTC)"I think Bar may have been spot-on when she chose this for us."
"So," she says, as the intro concludes. "A guy named Mike is up in a satellite with robots. Forced to watch... bad movies. Oh dear."
She may still be chuckling, as Tom Servo (or rather Htom Sirveaux) explains his name change.

'..Yeah, I have his pancreas in my pocket.'
"Are they... they're mocking the movie," Rae snickers. "And for good reason! This is a ridiculous dub."

Date: 2014-02-18 05:14 am (UTC)Hamlet's stepfather's teasing--"Now go mow the lawn"--garners another snort from the boy, as well as a sip of his tea.

Date: 2014-02-18 05:29 am (UTC)She has herself together again and is about to reclaim her tea and murmur her thanks for Autor saving it, when Hamlet says wistfully to Horatio 'I shall not look upon his like again,' and one of the robots, offended and perhaps a little scandalized, answers, 'What were you doin' lookin' at his like?'
Then all bets are off, as a fresh wave of giggling hits.

"This is terrible."

Date: 2014-02-18 05:42 am (UTC)"It's brilliant!" she says, and yet, is in complete agreement. "This interpretation of the play is ridiculously awful. The commentary actually adds to it, like th-"
'Speak! I'll go no further!'
'That's not what I hear, Sunshine.'
Sorry, there was an interrupting snort of laughter from the baker, carefully holding her tea still to keep it from spilling.

Date: 2014-02-18 05:53 am (UTC)"Murder most foul..."
"He killed a chicken?"
And Autor loses it in his teacup.

Date: 2014-02-18 05:57 am (UTC)"The problem is that all the poking-fun they do at it is... pretty much justified! That comment about needing a shrub, or even a stick would liven the place up? Completely accurate. Shakespeare was never so drab."
Ophelia sits, working on an elaborate floral needlepoint pattern and looking a bit put out with it.
'...It's supposed to be a duck.'

Date: 2014-02-18 06:03 am (UTC)When Crow intones to Ophelia, as Hamlet, "Get thee to a bakery!", Autor dissolves into a gigglefit again.

Date: 2014-02-18 06:07 am (UTC)"Oh, but it's practically traditional ... we used to mock bad films in theaters like this as teens. Especially if we were the only ones in there, so there'd be no one to complain to the employees. This is just better funded."
And better scripted, and better timed.
On the screen, Ophelia flees Hamlet's staring eyes, with one of the robots calling out, 'Daaaad! Hamlet's looking at meeee!'

Date: 2014-02-18 06:15 am (UTC)"I see," he says, finally indulging in some of the popcorn. "Do you think there are more of these?"
